Phakding to Namche

Todays trek goes under the heading of - be careful of what you wish for. The trek up Namche Hill was extremely difficult. Took 8 hours and was so very steep most of the way. I looked like one of those marathon runners who finishes very late in the race and wobbles to cross the finish line and then collapses.

The Village of Namche is 3,800 meters high, or 12,500 feet. Todays trek began in Monju which is 2,800 meters high. Making the climb 1,000 meters or 3,300 feet. By way of comparison, The Empire State Building is 1,454 feet to the tip.

Along the way, in the many villages we passed through.

The ubiquitous Sherpa. Some of them carry up to 200 lbs, mostly on steep uphill trails!  They are everywhere on the trekking paths carrying food, building supplies, and all sorts of things. They carry a thick stick with a crosspiece at the top to rest when they cant find a good rock to sit on.

This suspension bridge had prayer flags draped over the top cables, they were blowing in the strong winds, parallel to the ground, it brought the bridge to life.
